At the University of Graz, a financial incentive system was established more than 15 years ago to reward successful gender equality work. To evaluate gender equality work, the entry opportunities and, to an even greater extent, the promotion opportunities in the academic world are taken into account.
The entry-level opportunities index compares the proportion of women in assistant and project positions with the proportion of women among students. The promotion opportunities index compares the proportion of women among habilitated professors and professors with the proportion of young academics (average of the last six years). The entry and promotion opportunities indices are weighted and added together (overall index), with two-thirds of the focus on promotion opportunities. The two sub-indicators are capped at 1 (1 stands for a balanced ratio of opportunities for men and women), so that the "overfulfillment" of the proportion of women in one sub-indicator cannot compensate for the lack of equal opportunities in the other sub-indicator. Further information can also be found in Section 35 of the 2017 Women's Promotion Plan.
