Financial support for early-career female researchers focuses on fields in which women are significantly underrepresented. At regular intervals, selected academic disciplines receive funding earmarked specifically for supporting female doctoral candidates. The discipline selected is one in which the proportion of women among doctoral graduates is low, but where visible efforts are being made to help female doctoral students complete their degrees—this is operationalized using a specially developed indicator based on the proportion of women among doctoral students and graduates in recent years. The same academic discipline cannot be awarded twice in a row. The aim of this measure is to support women’s doctoral studies in fields with a low proportion of female doctoral graduates.
