Die Veranstaltungsreihe "to be published" versteht sich als Forum für den wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs aus dem Bereich der Geschlechterstudien und bietet eine Plattform für den Austausch mit Fachleuten und interessierter Öffentlichkeit. Clive Barker’s 1987 movie Hellraiser is considered a classic of the horror genre. Being a mixture of slasher, body horror, and gothic family drama, it presents various embodiments of gender and victimhood. Additionally, the movie represents the dichotomy between a more conservative complicit masculinity and a more hedonistic hegemonic masculinity through the characters Larry, the three nameless victims, and Frank. The film also has a female perpetrator in the form of Julia, who kills three men to help Frank regain his body. Using Connell’s concept of masculinities, as well as van Dijk’s understanding of victimhood and Clover’s view on gender in horror movies in this thesis Hellraiser’s male victims are analyzed based on how they embody their masculinity, the type of masculinity they embody, as well as the gender dynamics that appear in this movie. Also, the relationship between the male victim and female perpetrator is investigated, as despite the brief moments of power the female perpetrator is granted, she does not wield it within all her relations. This thesis aims to showcase the dynamic nature of gender embodiment in the context of relationships, as well as the nameless men retaining their masculinity despite being the victim, a role that is usually associated with femininity. 

Anna Relatić hat erfolgreich ihre Masterprüfung im Studiengang „Interdisziplinäre Geschlechterstudien“ absolviert und macht zurzeit ihren Master in Philosophie. Neben der Repräsentation von Geschlecht im Horrorgenre (und Medien im Allgemeinen) befinden sich ihre Forschungsinteressen in den Disziplinen der Erkenntnistheorie (spezifisch der epistemischen Ungerechtigkeit) und der politischen Philosophie.
